This month in Welsh, Louisiana a car wreck that happened on the Interstate claimed the life of one man. Sources say the wreck happened around 11 a.m. on a Tuesday on the westbound lanes of interstate 10, and that it involved one vehicle. Police investigating the accident have not released if they believe alcohol or another illicit drug to be an aspect of this accident. The wreck is still under investigation, and no citations have been made for this accident.
61 year-old Elmwood Prater Jr. of Sulphur, Louisiana was driving his 2004 Ford pick-up truck westbound on Interstate 10 when the wreck began. For reasons that are currently unknown, Prater began drifting off the side of the interstate. He then began over correcting his vehicle off the shoulder, and ended up crossing all the lanes of the interstate. Prater then began running off the roadway again, this time the vehicle began to flip. It flipped several times before coming to rest on it's side in the median.
Prater was the only occupant of his vehicle, and was restrained by a seatbelt at the time of the wreck. However, even with the seatbelt, Prater died from injuries sustained while his vehicle was flipping multiple times. Louisiana state police have stated that they believe excessive speed might have played a factor in this accident. Routine toxicology reports are pending for Prater, and the investigation into this accident continues.
