Ville Platte, Louisiana car wreck kills one

Posted on Dec 17, 2010

A Ville Platte, Louisiana car wreck took the life of one young child this month, and seriously injured three others in the vehicle at the time. Investigations into this wreck are ongoing, and citations for the accident have not yet been made. It is unknown if investigating police officers suspect the use of alcohol or another substance to be a factor in this accident. Toxicology samples, as required by Louisiana law in all fatal accidents, have been sent to the lab for analysis. Charges are pending upon the return of those results.

24 year-old Kayla Anderson of Ville Platte, Louisiana was driving her 2002 Oldsmobile passenger car down local Louisiana highway 1161 when the accident happened. Apparently Anderson was driving northwards down the road and had three young children with her. She came to an intersection of highway 1161 and local Tee Mamou road. Anderson went through the stop sign, which put her in the path of another vehicle. The vehicle swerved to avoid her, but clipped the side of her car. This caused the Oldsmobile to spin and go off the road, overturning in a ditch.

A one year old child in Anderson's car who was not restrained got ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Two other children in Anderson's vehicle received moderate injuries. The driver of the other vehicle was uninjured in the accident, and Anderson received minor injuries. Toxicology reports are being run on those involved in this wreck. The investigation will continue until those results come back, and then citations will be made.
