An accident that occurred in Vermillion parish, Louisiana took the life of one person and critically injured another. The single vehicle accident occurred on a local Louisiana highway said reporting state police that responded to the accident.

The accident occurred on La. 696 in Vermillion parish around 3 p.m. The driver of the vehicle lost control of his car for unknown reasons, coming around a corner and going off the road. Then the driver, 19 year old Shawn Touchard of New Iberia, Louisiana hit a culvert on the driver's side of the car, making the vehicle go even more out of control. When responding emergency personnel reached the scene of incident, the car was near the impact point of the culvert.

The Louisiana coroner's department pronounced Touchard of New Iberia, Louisiana dead at the scene of the accident, and his passenger 17 year old Rochelle Hollier of Maurice, Louisiana was taken immediately to a medical center for treatment of critical and severe injuries. It was not released if alcohol was a suspect in this accident, but routine toxicology tests are being run under Louisiana law.
