A fatal hit and run accident this week has claimed the life of one man, and another is evading justice. Police from St.Mary parish, Louisiana are investigating the accident that occurred very early in the morning in the city of Lafayette. Sources say that the man who caused the accident fled from the scene of the wreck and has yet to be located. For this reason, it is unknown if the use of alcohol or another illicit substance is a factor in this accident. It was unreleased if it was a suspect by the police.
The accident occurred around 4am in the morning, police say, on local Louisiana highway 182 near Amelia, Louisiana. 29 year-old Weston Groves of Florida was walking along the side of the highway when, for unknown reasons, an unidentified SUV that resembled a Chevrolet Tahoe or GMC Yukon went from the middle of the road to the right side of the shoulder, hitting Groves. The truck, also suspected to be pewter or gold in color, then fled from the scene of the accident.
When emergency personnel responded to the accident, the St.Mary parish Coroner's office pronounced Weston Groves as dead from injuries sustained in the accident. Police are now searching for the driver of the vehicle in hopes to continue and close the investigation on this accident. The car must have, according to police, sustained moderate to extreme damage on the right hand passenger side.
