Posted on Oct 28, 2010

This month in Bossier parish, Louisiana a United States Postal Worker was seriously injured while working. The two vehicle accident occurred sometime during the morning hours, when the worker was making their normal rounds. Routine toxicology reports have been taken from the accident under Louisiana law, even though intoxication is suspected by either of the parties involved in this unfortunate accident.

The accident began when two Sheriff officers were responding to an ATV accident in another part of the parish were driving in fully evident patrol vehicles with their lights on. The postal worker Deborah B. Wood of Castor, Louisiana was stopped on the side of Highway 527 delivering mail. The first sheriff avoided Wood's vehicle safely and continued, but the second sheriff who was traveling behind the first was not so fortunate. The sheriff, Deputy Joe Young approached Wood from behind, making impact. Her car was made to go into a ditch, and overturn. Wood was not wearing a seatbelt, and was ejected from the vehicle.

As a postal worker under the law, she did not have to have a seatbelt on while doing her duties. Deputy Joe Young of Troop G was transported via ambulance to Knighton Medical Center in Bossier, Louisiana with minor injuries. Routine toxicology reports are being run, but the use of a substance is not a suspected factor in this accident.
