This month near Opelousas, Louisiana a man was critically injured in a car accident on a local Louisiana interstate. Investigating police officers have released that it happened in the middle of night, but that they do not suspect the use alcohol or another substance to be a factor in this wreck. Toxicology samples have been taken from the driver and sent into the lab for analysis, and citations are pending upon their return.
29 year-old Troy Marshall Doucet of Opelousas, Louisiana was driving his vehicle down Interstate 49 when the accident occurred. He was traveling southbound near the Sunset-Grand Coteau exit when he lost control of his vehicle. For reasons that are currently unknown he veered off the right side of the roadway. In an effort to gain control of his vehicle, Doucet swerved back into the lane, however this caused his car to spin and then flip several times.
Doucet was not properly restrained by a seatbelt at the time of the wreck, and was ejected from the vehicle. He sustained critical injuries and was taken immediately from the crash scene to Lafayette General Medical Center. At this time no citations have been made, but are pending, and the exact status of Doucet is unknown. He has not been released from the hospital, and the investigation into the accident continues.
