Opelousas, Louisiana injures two

Posted on Dec 15, 2010

A car wreck that occurred near Opelousas, Louisiana this month caused two men to receive injuries. Investigating state police have stated that the wreck occurred on Interstate 49 and that it happened at a time of extreme traffic during the holiday season. The wreck took over both sides of the interstate, and caused traffic to come to a complete halt for at least an hour while the wreck was being cleaned up. Investigations into the wreck are ongoing, and citations have not been made.

26 year-old Brian Patrick Campbell was driving northbound on Interstate 49 between the mile markers 14 and 15 when the wreck occurred. According to investigations from State Troopers, Campell allegedly lost control his truck while driving down the interstate. When he lost control, it caused his vehicle to exit the roadway and enter the grassy median between the northbound and southbound lanes. From there, the truck entered the southbound lanes of the interstate. His truck swerved through the lanes, and a part of his vehicle made impact with a parked sheriff's vehicle.

Brian Patrick Campell and Captain Jimmy Darbonne of the Opelousas Sherriff's department were taken to a local medical center for treatment of their injuries. Investigations into this wreck continue, and citations have yet to be made. It is expected for several to follow once the investigation is completed. It was not stated if State Troopers suspected the use of alcohol or another substance to be a factor in this wreck.
