A serious car wreck this month in Livingston, Louisiana has claimed the life of one person and seriously injured another. Sources investigating the wreck have not confirmed or denied that the use of substances was a part of this two vehicle wreck. At this time, the investigation is ongoing and no citations have been made.
The wreck happened in the parish of Livingston on local Louisiana highway 16, just south of La. 1022. It is unknown what time the wreck occurred, but Johnny London of Denham Springs Louisiana was driving an F-150 on the day of the wreck. He was heading north on the highway, when a vehicle in front of him made an abrupt stop. In order to avoid rear ending the vehicle, London swerved into the other lane. At the same time, Hientz Taylor of Franklinton, Louisiana was driving a pick-up truck southbound. The two vehicles collided head on, and came to rest in a nearby ditch on the side of the roadway.
Responding emergency personnel have said that London tried to avoid the collision, but failed. Livingston parish coroner's pronounced Hientz Taylor of Franklinton dead at the scene of the wreck. A passenger in Taylor's vehicle received life threatening injuries and was airlifted to a hospital for treatment. Johnny London received only minor injuries in this wreck, and was treated on scene. London took an on-site breathalyzer test which revealed there was no alcohol in his system. Charges for this wreck were not immediately named but are pending, and the investigations continue.
Hopefully the police properly identified the vehicle that stopped abruptly. Even though this vehicle may have escaped the accident, the initial reports above suggest that this stopping vehicle may have played a role in causing the accident. A claim may be filed against the insurer of this vehicle even though the vehicle did not actually strike any cars in the accident. Also, given the number of individuals injured in this accident, it is likely that UM insurance will be necessary if a full recovery for all damages can be obtained. In order for your insurance company to deny you UM insurance in Louisiana, the law requires that you specifically, and in writing, reject this coverage. A rejection online by computer is often not sufficient. It is always critical to make sure your insurance company has "dotted their i's and crossed their t's" when they try to deny UM coverage to you. Finally, the guest passenger of Taylor's vehicle can pursue a ‘guest passenger' claim against Taylor's insurance company even though this passenger was riding in the same vehicle at the time of the accident.
