A car wreck that took place in Oak Grove, Louisiana this month claimed the life of one young child, and moderately injured her mother. Sources investigating the wreck say that it happened early in the morning hours on a local road that connects Oak Grove to the surrounding towns. Police who are investigating the accident report the it only involved one vehicle, and the suspicion of alcohol or another illicit substance is minimal. Investigations into this wreck continue, but citations have been made.
34 year-old Chastity McGaha of Oak Grove, Louisiana was driving her 2002 Buick Century down North Old Kilbourne Road northbound just before six o'clock in the morning when the accident happened. For reasons that are currently unknown, McGaha ran off the right hand side of the roadway. She then over corrected her vehicle, and began sliding across the paved surface to the left hand side of the road. There the vehicle left the roadway and made impact with a large tree on the passenger side of the car, which caused it to come to rest.
Neither Chasity or her daughter were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the wreck. The daughter was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck by the West Carroll parish coroner's office, while Chasity sustained moderate injuries. She was taken to St.Francis Medical Center for treatment of her injuries immediately following the accident. Responding state troopers have cited her for careless operation of a vehicle, failure to restrain a child, and no seatbelt. It is unknown if she has been released from the hospital, or is still going through treatment. The investigation into this wreck continues by state troopers, but is expected to close soon.
