A massive car accident on Interstate 610 in New Orleans, Louisiana this month has claimed the life of one woman and seriously injured over 14 others. The wreck happened in the afternoon rush hour traffic, investigating officers have said, and caused the roadway to be shut down for more then three hours as officers rushed to get it cleaned up.
The wreck happened on Interstate 610 just after the Elysian Fields Avenue exit just after 5 p.m. A dump truck traveling down the interstate at an extremely high rate of speed collided with the rear end of a small vehicle. The vehicle flew up into the air, and the dump truck screeched out from the place of the wreck. Subsequently, other vehicles began colliding with the dump truck and the smaller vehicle, which caused the 16 car pile-up in the middle of the interstate.
The section of roadway was cut off for three hours as over 22 medical and emergency workers set to work on freeing and getting all of the victims to proper medical centers for treatment. Luckily, only one person lost their life in this accident, but many others were seriously injured. Investigators looking into this wreck have not spoken whether or not they believe the wreck was caused by drugs or alcohol, but speed was definite factor. This wreck is still under investigation, and citations will be made following the toxicology reports.
