This month in Monroe, Louisiana a serious car accident claimed the life of one person and moderately injured others. Sources investigating the four vehicle wreck have said that they do not believe they were caused by driving under the influence or by the use of an illicit substance, but toxicology tests are pending as it was a fatal Louisiana car wreck.
72 year-old Betty Curry was driving a 1998 Mazda northbound down Seventh street, approaching an intersection with Stella street when the wreck occurred. Curry ran the red light of the intersection, and crossed into the path of another vehicle. The vehicle made impact with the Mazda, and subsequently caused two other vehicles to become involve in the wreck. This caused a mangle of four vehicles in the middle of the intersection.
Betty Curry was immediately transported to Glennwood Regional Medical Center, but was pronounced dead upon her arrival. Another driver, Barbara Stevens of Monroe was also taken to a hospital but was listed in stable condition. Several others had minor injuries in this wreck, and were treated on scene. The investigations into this wreck have not been closed, and citations are still pending. At this time, it is unknown whether or not charges will be made.
