A serious car wreck near Mansfield, Louisiana this month has claimed the life of one young man. Sources investigating the accident say it happened in the early morning hours, but have not stated why they believe the accident occurred. An autopsy is being conducted to investigate the reasons of this wreck.
22 year-old Brent M. Welch was driving his 2001 GMC Pick-up on local Louisiana highway 509, when he made the turn onto Mill Entry Road. He began driving his vehicle down the roadway, while a logging truck with a full load had made a stop in the middle of the roadway. Welch, for reasons that are currently being investigated, collided straight into the back of the vehicle, and came to a rest.
Emergency personnel arrived at the scene of the wreck, and determined an air lift was needed for Welch's life threatening injuries. He was taken from the scene of the accident to the LSU Hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana. There, he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival by injuries sustained in the accident. The driver of the logging truck was uninjured in this accident. Investigations are ongoing to determine why Welch collided with the back of the vehicle. At this time no citations have been made, and the investigations are still ongoing.
