This month a woman that was hit twice by two different cars while standing on the side of the road, and eventually passed from injuries sustained in the double accident. Reporting police officers say that the accident is still under investigation and that being under the influence of alcohol was a high likelihood for the woman hit on the roads.
Renaesha Carter was apparently lingering on the side of Louisiana highway 70 east 3120 near the Sunshine bridge when the accidents occurred. Carter was walking in the outside lane of travel, apparently uninterested in getting off the road when she was first struck by Ryan Cantrell in a Maxima. Cantrell after making impact, pulled over his car and tried dragging the woman off the roadway, but as he was doing so, she was hit again by John Hebert as he was traveling through lanes.
Emergency response teams rushed to the scene to try and assist Carter, and an Acadain ambulance transported her to the St.Elizabeth Hospital with critical, life threatening injuries. It was reported later on that Carter succumbed to the injuries she sustained in the crash, and died. Toxicology tests are pending on all of those involved with the accident, but the Cantrell and Hebert are not suspected of being under the influence. The investigation continues on this wreck.
