This month, a long time Kenner official was charged with driving under the influence, as well as hit and run. Reporting police officers said that the incident occurred around 1 p.m. when the man was driving his private vehicle home. The man was Robert Chiro who is director of the city's inspection and code enforcement department. When he did, the car stopped at the stop sign got hit directly. Chiro then reportedly drove away from the scene of the accident, and the car that was hit tried to follow him.

An off-duty police officer who witnessed the accident stopped Chiro about a block away from the scene of the crime. No serious injuries were reported from this incident but there was damage to the car that Chiro hit. He booked with DWI, and hit-and-run driving.
