This month in Gray, Louisiana there was a horrific accident that took the life of three people, destroyed a home, and damaged several large trees. The early morning accident occured on La.24 around 2:53am, state police say, and was most likely caused by excessive speed. However, routine toxicology results are still pending from all of those involved.
The drivers Robert Short and Raymond Bourg were reportedly driving south down the two lane highway near the rod bridge, driving at excessive speeds and tailing one another. Bourg was carrying a passenger, Lindsey Fontenot, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time. The accident occured when Short tried to merge in on the left lane behind Bourg, realized he couldn't make it, corrected to the right and at that point clipped the back of Bourg's car. Both automobiles lost control, and went careening to the left. Short's truck went through a picked fence and into a house while Bourg's vechile smashed into several large trees before coming to rest on the south side of the rod bridge.
All three were pronounced dead at the scene of incident by the coroner's office, and the extensive clean up of property damage continued through out the day. State police say that no one has been cited for this accident, and that routine toxicology tests are still being run to determine if any of the victims were under the influence of alocohol or drugs.
