22 year-old Kayla Hatch was driving her 1994 Chevrolet pick-up truck on local Louisiana highway 190 when the accident occurred. She was traveling westbound down the roadway, and not wearing a seatbelt. The wreck occurred when Hatch made an attempted left turn onto Louisiana highway 81. There, she turned directly into the path of a 2011 GMC SUV. The SUV struck the truck on the passenger side. The GMC left the roadway, caught fire, and crashed into a local business while Hatch was ejected from her vehicle, then run over by it as it continued forward.

The driver of the GMC, 32 year-old Kevin Cope managed to escape his vehicle, and was treated for minor injuries. 22 year-old Kayla Hatch was transported via emergency response helicopter to Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center for treatment of life threatening injuries. At this time, her current condition is unknown. The use of alcohol and other substances are not suspected in this crash, but it is still under investigation and no citations have been made.
