State police battled a serious accident recently on the interstate 12 incoming to Baton Rouge. Two big rig trucks ended up careening off the road after they made impact with one another, leaking hazardous materials and setting fire to some of the side brush along the interstate. The interstate was closed for nearly twelve hours as officals worked to clean up the mess.
The two semi-trucks were driving along side one another, when, for unknown reasons, one of the big rigs lost control of his cargo. His semi, which was holding auto parts, sideswiped a passing trucker. That truck was carrying a large tank of potassium hydroxide. Both of the trucks went careening off the highway. The 18 wheeler carrying the automobile parts went into the shoulder, through the brush, and burst into flames. The other vechile came to rest on the shoulder, managing to maintain control of his truck.
Police kept the interstate closed for nearly twelve hours as firefighters worked to put out the fire, and as officals discovered that the potassium hydroxide tank was leaking. The clean up took an extended period of time, and traffic was backed up all evening.
