A car wreck that occurred on local Louisiana highway outside of Lake Charles, Louisiana this month sent two people to the hospital with critical injuries. The crash happened in the early morning traffic hours, investigators say. The use of alcohol or another substance was not a suspected factor in this accident, and investigators did not run a toxicology sample for either driver involved. At this point citations have been made, but more are pending on the results of the on going investigation.
The wreck happened on local Louisiana highway 397 just around 7am in the morning. Beverely J. Dawson was driving her 1998 GMC pick-up truck down the highway when she came upon a four way stop sign. Another vehicle being driven by Angela S. Leonard arrived at the intersection at the same time. Dawson continued through the intersection, and failed to yield. Leonard and Dawson's vehicles collided.
Dawson was restrained at the time of the wreck, and had to be airlifted to a local hospital for treatment of moderate injuries. Leonard was not wearing a seatbelt at the time, and was taken via ambulance to a local medical center for treatment of moderate injuries. Dawson was cited for failure to yield at a stop sign, and Leonard was charged with failure to wear a seatbelt. This accident is still being investigated by police, and more citations might be pending.
