A serious car wreck that happened in Lafitte, Louisiana this month has claimed the life of one man. The late night accident happened within the city borders when a man driving his vehicle lost control. Information on the wreck, the results of toxicology reports, and other general information are still being investigated by Louisiana police. At this point in time it is unknown if the driver of the car was intoxicated at the time of the wreck, but samples have been sent to the lab for analysis.
57 year-old Bert Hargis of Lafitte, Louisiana was driving his 2007 Jeep down the main boulevard Jean Lafitte when for reasons that are currently being investigated by police he lost control of his vehicle. The following accident caused his SUV to skid, and then overturn on the 1600 block of the road. The wreck was reported around 1:57AM, and responding emergency personnel rushed to the scene of the wreck to try and assist Hargis.
Unfortunately, Hargis was not restrained at the time of the wreck. Since he was not wearing a seatbelt, the man was ejected from his vehicle. He died from injuries sustained in the wreck, and from being ejected from the vehicle. Emergency personnel stated that he had passed before they could even arrive to assist him. Toxicology reports were taken from Hargis, and sent to the lab. The results from those samples are currently unknown, nor was it released if the police thought Hargis to be under the influence of alcohol or another substance. As of now the investigations into this Louisiana car wreck continue, and no citations have been made.
