This month near Lafayette, Louisiana a young man was critically injured in a serious car wreck. Emergency officials who responded to the accident have stated that they do not believe the use of substances to be a factor in this wreck, but routine toxicology reports have been filed.
The wreck happened as 19 year-old Peter Lowry was driving his vehicle down local Louisiana highway 733 near the Vermillion river drawbridge. It was around 4:45 am, officials say, when Lowry lost control of his vehicle for reasons that are currently being investigated. His vehicle swerved across the lanes, and headed northbound off the highway. Then, his vehicle collided with the concrete drawbridge support systems.
When emergency response vehicles arrived at the scene of the accident, they found that Lowry had been ejected from his vehicle. He has sustained critical injuries during the wreck, and was taken immediately via ambulance to Lafayette General Hospital. At this time, his current condition is unknown. The investigators of this wreck do not suspect that he was intoxicated, but routine tests have been taken. The accident is still under investigation, and will close or continue upon the toxicology report.
