A serious car wreck this month in Lafayette, Louisiana has claimed the life of one woman. Investigators assigned to the wreck have not released if they believe the use of substances to be a factor in this accident, but routine toxicology reports are pending as required under Louisiana law for all fatal car wrecks.

26 year-old Gheri Blood of Lafayette, Louisiana was driving a pick-up truck down local Louisiana highway 3042 near Huckleberry road when the accident occurred. Apparently Blood was driving but lost control of her vehicle, and crossed over the centerline of the roadway before exiting it completely. The vehicle traveled over 300 feet, struck a tree, and then flipped several times before coming to rest in a grassy area off the road.

When emergency personnel responded to the accident, Blood was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck. She was not wearing a seatbelt, but was not ejected from the vehicle. The investigations into this accident are ongoing as local law enforcement tries to determine why Blood lost control of her vehicle. Toxicology reports are pending from the lab, and citations will be made according to those results.
