This month in Houma, Louisiana a serious car wreck sent one person to the hospital, and caused another to be arrested. The Houma police who investigated the wreck say that it happened late during the evening, and possibly included one of the vehicles involved running a red light. The use of alcohol was a large suspected factor in this case, and a field sobriety test was issued. The investigations into this accident continues, and more citations are pending.

William Cody Yelverton of Silver Creek, Mississippi was driving down Houma's Main street when the accident occurred. He was oncoming to an intersection with Barrow street that was signaled by a red light. At this point in the investigation, it is unknown if Yelverton ran the red light, but his blue Chevrolet pickup truck made contact with a Chevrolet trailblazer driven by David Bergeron Jr. of Bourg, Louisiana. The extent of the collision, and what speed both of the vehicles were traveling in are currently unknown.

Sources say that Yelverton was suspected of alcohol on the scene, but refused to submit a breath test. Instead he was given a field sobriety test that he failed. He was taken into custody following, and given a breath test. David Bergeron Jr. was alert at the scene of the accident, but had to be taken by Acadian ambulance to a hospital for treatment of his injuries. The investigation into this wreck continue as police try to gather more information about the collision. Citations will follow after the investigation closes.
