35 year-old Corey Matthews of Gray, Louisiana was driving his vehicle down local Louisiana highway 311 when the wreck occurred. When Matthews tried to come off the shoulder, he made impact with the driver's side of a pick-up truck driven by Glenn Louque of Schriever, Louisiana who was trying to swerve out of the vehicle's way.
Glenn Louque and Corey Matthews were taken immediately to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center for treatment of moderate injuries. Glenn Louque was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, and the use of alcohol is not suspected. Corey Matthews was charged with several citations including not driving with a seatbelt, a suspended driver's license, open alcoholic containers, and possession of marijuana. More citations for Matthews are pending following the toxicology reports. The investigation into this wreck continues, and sources say they will be ongoing until the results come back from the lab.
