Gretna, Louisiana wreck seriously injures one

Posted on Nov 16, 2010

A traffic accident that occurred in Gretna, Louisiana this week has caused one woman to be seriously injured, and two other people injured. The wreck happened on Belle Chase Highway around 10 a.m., sources say. It involved three vehicles and several lanes of traffic. Investigators looking into the wreck have said that the wreck was caused by inattentive driving, and that more citations on top of the one might be forthcoming.

The wreck began with a white pick-up truck that was being driven by an unidentified man. He was trying to cross the Belle Chase Highway via 23rd street to go northbound to the West bank expressway. The man made it to the median where there was a tan GMC Yukon passing in the lane he needed to get into, the pick-up truck pulled out prematurely after the Yukon had passed, clipping it's rear. The clip caused the driver to loose control of the vehicle as it went on two wheels. The Yukon went over the median and crossed into southbound traffic where the car made impact with a white car being driven by a 50 year-old woman. The two vehicles were forced off the roadway where they came to rest, the Yukon overturned on it's roof.

The woman in the white car sustained a serious leg injury and head wound from the accident, and was taken to Intertrim LSU Public hospital for treatment. The driver of the yukon was not injured, but two passengers within the vehicle received minor injuries and were taken to Oschner Medical Center west bank for treatment of their injuries. The driver of the white pick-up truck was not injured, but cited for careless operation of a motor vehicle. The investigations into this wreck continue, and more charges might be pending.
