Gray, Louisiana wreck kills one, injures two others

An accident this month in Gray, Louisiana has claimed the life of one woman and seriously injured two others. Investigations into the wreck reveal it happened between a trash truck and a normal sized vehicle. It occurred on a local Louisiana highway, and at this time there is no suspsicion of intoxication from anyone involved in this wreck. However, toxicology reports required by Louisiana state law in all fatal accidents are pending.

The wreck happened just around 11 a.m on local Louisiana highway 24. Sandra Richards was driving a Hyundai Elantra and driving on the outside lane of the highway near the rod bridge. The wreck began when Richards tried to make an illegal left hand turn. A dump truck was traveling on the inside lane in the oppisite direction, and could not avoid the collison when Richards tried to make the turn. The two vehicles collided, nearly completely smashing the Elantra.

Sandra Richards had two passengers in the vehicle at the time of the accident. All three were properly restrained at the time of the wreck, and were taken to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center. Richards was pronounced dead when she arrived to the hospital. The two other passengers in her vehicle sustained moderate injuries and were held for treatment. The driver of the dump truck was uninjured in this accident. The investigation into this wreck continues, and citations have not yet been made.
