A single vehicle accident in Doyline, Louisiana this month has seriously injured a young girl, while another recieved minor injuries. The wreck happened during the morning hours at intersection between two local streets. Investigating state troopers released that they did not suspect the driver in this accident to be under the influence of alcohol or another substance, but tests were required because of the critical injury this accident caused.
17 year-old Ashley Sanford of Doyline, Louisiana was driving her 2000 Saturn SL passenger car westward down Boothville road when the wreck occured. Apparently Sanford was driving very quickly at the time of the wreck, which happened when she became distracted by her seatbelt. Sanford went to adjust the belt, and ended up loosing control of the vehicle. The car spun around the roadway, coming off the lefthand shoulder. She went onto the grassy median of the road, struck a large oak tree, and came to rest in a ditch.
Sanford had a passenger, 15 year-old Amy Gallegos who was unrestrained at the time of the wreck. Gallegos suffered severe injuries, and had to be airlifted from the wreck scene to the LSU Medical Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Ashley Sanford recieved minor injuries as a result of the wreck, and was not taken to a hospital. Instead she was checkec on scene by the local fire department, and released. State troopers charged Sanford for careless operation of a motor vehicle and no seatbelt, for Gallego's lack on restraint. The investigations into this wreck continue, but no more citations are expected to be made from this wreck.
