A tragic accident that happened near Covington, Louisiana is being investigated this week. The wreck claimed the life of a 16 year-old girl, and moderately injured another man. It happened on a local Louisiana highway around 6:20pm. Routine toxicology reports, as required in all fatal accidents by state law, are being run but alcohol and other drug use is not a suspected factor in this accident.

16 year-old Angelle Ulfers was driving on local U.S Highway 190, sources say, eastward of Louisiana Highway 1077 when she tried passing several other cars, for unknown reasons, in a no passing part of the highway. As she moved over the centerline, Ulfers found herself directly in front of 50 year-old Floyd Stokes in his Chevrolet pick up truck. Ulfers apparently tried steering out of the way, going left off the road. Stoke's vehicle struck Ulfer's left hand side, causing the SUV to begin rotating as it came back onto the roadway. Both Stokes and Ulfers were wearing their seatbelts during the accident.

Ulfers was initially airlifted from the scene of the accident to St .Tammany Parish Hospital in critical condition. Later on, she was transported to University Medical Center. That night Ulfers passed from injuries sustained in the accident. Stokes was taken via ambulance to Louisiana Medical Center with moderate injuries, and has been listed in stable condition. Police are still investigating the incident, and routine toxicology reports are pending.
