A horrible accident in Assumption parish claimed the life of one person and seriously injured four others this month. Louisiana state police report the accident happened on a local embankment on a highway, and the investigation is still open. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were factors in this accident.

It began when Cardell Anderson was driving his 1995 Ford Explorer on La.70 near La.996, around an estimated time of 5:58pm. He had a total of four passengers in his vehicle at the time of the accident. Apparently Anderson failed to navigate a sharp embankment turn, and the ford explorer went flying. The car flipped several times, ejecting all of it's passengers over a span of 272 feet before the car itself hit the ground and came to a rest. No one in the Explorer was wearing their seatbelts, sources say.

Anderson was pronounced dead at the scene of incident by the Assumption Parish coroner's office, and all four of the passengers in the car were seriously injured as a result from this accident. This includes two minors, an unidentified 10 year old and an unidentified 14 year old. All the victims were taken to local area hospitals by responding Acadian ambulances. State police are working on toxicology tests and are investigating this accident further.
