State police in Louisiana reported that a 17-year-old female died after being partially thrown from a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier. Her vehicle was hit broadside by a truck on LA 1026 and LA 1030. We offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased.
The victim was a passenger in the vehicle that was being driven by a 26-year-old Denham Springs resident.
Witnesses indicated that the car swerved across the road and then was struck by the oncoming truck.
The driver was taken to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital with minor injuries. Another passenger was taken to Oschsner Hospital. The truck driver and his son only received minor injuries.
The driver was charged with vehicular homicide, vehicular negligent injury, DWI, reckless operation, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, no driver's license, and no seat belt. She was booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center after release from the hospital.
