18 wheeler and bicyclist collide in Lafayette, Louisiana

An accident involving a bicyclist and an eighteen wheeler has claimed the life of one man, sources say. The wreck happened around 8 o'clock at night in Lafayette, Louisiana earlier this month. Investigations into the accident are continuing, and as of right now no citations have been made. It is unknown if the use of alcohol or another illicit substance was the cause of this wreck, but under Louisiana law toxicology reports have been pulled and sent into the lab for samples.

The driver of the eighteen wheeler was traveling in the right hand lane of NE Evangeline thruway when the accident occurred. Apparently the bicycle simply rolled into the right lane of the thruway, striking the eighteen wheeler's trailer pull. The man driving the bicycle, later identified as 48 year-old Carl James Lindon, was ejected from the bicycle and thrown onto the thruway. The operator of the eighteen wheeler reported the accident.

When emergency personnel got to the scene of the wreck, Lindon was still alive but in critical condition. He was rushed to a local medical center for his injuries, where he remained until the following Monday. He passed on as a result of the injuries he sustained in this wreck. The operator of the eighteen wheeler was not injured in this accident, and it unknown if his load received damages from the impact. Investigations into this wreck continue, and no citations have been made from the Lafayette police department.
