This week in Westlake near Lake Charles, Louisana an accident between a small sedan and an 18 wheeler sent one person to the hospital. State Troopers responding to the accident said the accident happened on the Interstate 10, near the PPG Drive exit during morning traffic. Investigations into this accident are closed, and the drivers of this accident cited.
Witnesses to the accident say that Charlene Lemaire of Sulphur, Louisiana caused the wreck when she was following too close behind an 18 wheeler. The big rig had to stop because of congested traffic further ahead on the interstate, and Lemaire ran into the back of the massive truck. Her vechile was pinned under the end of trailer, with front end smashed all the way to the driver's seat, according to police and pictures from the scene.
Lemaire had to be pulled from her car by emergency personell. The jaws of life, an IV Line, and several other life saving devices had to be used in order to pull Lemaire from her vecihle. Reporting state police say that she suffered from moderate injuries, and was transported to a hospital for immediate treatment. The driver of the big rig was uninjured, and no one else was in the car with Lemaire, police report.
