Drinking and Driving in Louisiana - a Dangerous Mix

Most Americans drink at some time or another. About two thirds of us like an occasional alcoholic beverage. The danger is when we have more than a couple and then try to drive home.

The death toll from drinking and driving is significant. There are about 16,000 alcohol-related deaths on the roads and highways each year. This is about 40% of all accident deaths.

Sadly, the young are very affected by alcohol-impaired accidents. About 60% of all accidents affect 16-24 year olds.

The statistics are daunting. In your lifetime, you have about a 33% chance of being involved in an accident that is alcohol-related. Every 32 minutes in America, families lose a close relative to such an accident. Someone is involved in such an accident every 2 minutes, and over 1.5 million are arrested each year for DWI.

No matter how much you believe that it can't happen to you, it can. Your chance of being involved in an alcohol-impaired accident is just too high to take a chance.

Fortunately, organizations in America are working to limit accidents involving alcohol, including the American Automobile Association.

There may well be no real safe level of drinking while driving, but an alcohol concentration of 0.08% to .10% will get you in trouble legally. The best solution is simply never to drink and drive.
