The Regulation of Trucks Carrying Hazardous Materials

So the Federal government can regulate the transport of hazardous materials on the nation's highways, it has strict record keeping requirements.

Each business must maintain a Certificate of Regulation at its place of business for three years after issuance. These certificates include a copy of the registration statement filed with the Pipe Line and Hazardous Materials Administration (PHMSA) and a copy of the Certificate of Registration issued by the PHMSA.

Each truck carrying hazardous materials must also carry a copy of its current certificate issued by the PHMSA. Other acceptable documents may be carried in all trucks used to move hazardous materials. These documents must identify the registration number.

Enforcement personnel can demand to see such documents at any time. These documents must include all records relevant to information contained in the registration statement.

Transporting hazardous materials is serious. Regulatory agencies and carriers must make sure they can meet all requirements. Trucks carrying hazardous materials can obviously be more dangerous on the road than other trucks.

You can find more information about these regulations here.

At the Young Law Firm, we are obviously very concerned about truck safety and especially concerned about the transport of hazardous materials, since an accident of a truck carrying such materials can be very dangerous.
