Last month in Madison Parish, 48 year old Harry Ingram was pronounced dead at the scene of a head-on collision. Ingram was traveling southbound on US Highway 65 when suddenly a 2010 Chevrolet truck crossed the center line and collided into his 2008 GMC truck head-on at milepost 55 for reportedly "unknown reasons."
The driver of the Chevy was Donald Vandersypen, 42, of Alexandria, Louisiana. He was immediately taken to the Madison Parish hospital and was quickly after air-transferred to the University Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. Mark Dennis, public information officer for the responding Troop F, said that there are charges pending an ongoing investigation, while both drivers involved were said to have been wearing seat belts and neither were suspected of being impaired.
This is an example of a seemingly simple accident that should be fully investigated. Possible UM coverage must be determined, as well as ownership of the vehicles. If a tire blow out played any role in the accident, a product liability claim may be pursued. Finally, the nature of the highway and the design of the highway should be considered. Many older highways are poorly or even improperly designed and a claim against the Department of Transportation should be considered in such cases.
