Aggressive Driving is a Serious Problem

It probably would be no surprise for you to learn that aggressive driving is a serious problem on today's roadways in America. This problem is intensified when the aggressive driver is driving a large truck.

Aggressive driving is simply when a driver behaves in an unusual way on the road. It can be dangerous enough to be termed “road rage” and can include a number of behaviors like:
  • tailgating
  • weaving
  • careless lane changes
We've all seen these types on the road. It is like they are “going to a fire” but with little regard for others on the roads.

Reckless Driving
Dangerous and aggressive driving can often result in the charge of reckless driving but in serious cases can also result in criminal charges. Can you imagine the consequences of an 80,000-pound truck involved with a 5,000-car in an accident resulting from aggressive driving?

Tailgating
Think about looking into your rear view mirror and seeing a large truck just a few feet from the back of your car! It can be more than frightening. Take action to avoid being tailgated. Speed up if that gets the other vehicle off your tail or signal the other vehicle to pass you when safe. Pull over on a one-lane road or stop when safe at a public location.

Weaving
Don't be caught weaving yourself. If you see someone coming up behind you doing so, get in the far right lane and let that person get as far in front of you as possible. Again, pull over if you must.

Dangerous Lane Changes
Experienced truck drivers know they have blind spots that limit their ability to see other vehicles. They know they must take extra precautions when changing lanes. Sometimes, however, either the driver or the vehicle itself is impaired. Once again, drive defensively to avoid the consequences of another driver making a bad decision when lane changing.
